Grooving all the way into Lockdown Level 1 with Creation Wines and KayaFM

For most of us, this year has felt like a lifetime of being locked away in our homes. It’s been tough, but, finally, there’s some light at the end of the tunnel… and it’s beautiful!

So, we thought, hey why not celebrate all the good things life still has to offer? If there’s gorgeous wine, gourmet snacks, great music and some good friends to share it all with, what could possibly be wrong with groovin’ on the eve of Lockdown Level 1?

Which is exactly what we did on Sunday, 20 September during What’s Wrong with Groovin’: A Virtual Wine Experience! This first-of-its-kind Spring party saw a few of our Joburg Wine Club regulars gathering at the magnificent DAVINCI Hotel and Suites in Sandton, while our other beloved wine tribe members joined in on the fun from all corners of South Africa, via Zoom Webinar and Instagram.

In true Joburg Wine Club style, it was all about reuniting our fabulous tribe over spectacular wine from Creation Wines, with delicious snacks paired with the best local music and hottest fashion. The theme for the party was ‘Alchemy’ and we loved seeing everyone dress up accordingly.

All attendees received the truly magical Creation Alchemy Tasting Kit and were taken on a virtual wine tasting journey into the vineyards of the Hemel & Aarde Valley by Creation Wines ambassador, Nkululeko Mkhwanazi.

Adding to the fun, we selected six of our favourite wine tribe personalities to represent each of the six wines in the Alchemy Tasting Kit.

With her crisp sense of style and fresh creative flair, Katlego Mamabolo – who also designed our event artwork - embodied the aromatic attraction of Sauvignon Blanc, followed by vivacious Viognier, perfectly captured by bubbly and beautiful Ayanda Nhlapo. Who better to personify Creation’s absolutely brilliant Chardonnay than beauty queen, Asanda Maku? Known as the Prince of Reds, Pinot Noir called for some royal red energy, which Khanye Mfeka brought in abundance. Bringing her signature sense of spicy humour, Nonkululeko Mdluli captured the ripe plum, black pepper and umami flavours of Grenache and last, but not least the enchanting Selina Mutale breezed in on a rose-tinted cloud to share her love for the Creation Grenache Noir, Viognier Rosé.

Thank you to the talented Ken Khutso for the images!

While the official proceedings took place between 4pm and 6pm, our wine tribe continued grooving well past sunset with Kaya FM’s DJ Kenzhero & Obrigado’s sultry and sexy What’s Wrong With Groovin’ Spring Playlist.

A very special thank you to DAVINCI Hotel and Suites in Sandton for the beautiful venue! We can’t wait to visit again.

With the arrival of Lockdown Level 1 and further relaxation of regulations around social gatherings, we’re looking forward to throwing a proper Joburg Wine Club bash in-person before the year is out!
