For the final day of our #JoburgLovesWine winter winelands adventure, we headed off to the picturesque Hemel and Aarde Valley in Hermanus to visit Creation Wines.
Driving along the R320, it’s easy to see why it was named the valley of heaven and earth. With rolling hills covered in fynbos with vineyards tucked in between, panoramic ocean views and far-off mountain peaks.
More than just being a particularly beautiful patch of earth, this valley is also home to some of South Africa’s most exclusive boutique wineries and award-winning restaurants.
And among all of these, Creation Wines can undoubtedly be considered a gem in the crown of the Hemel and Aarde Valley.
During our visit, we were hosted by the wonderful Carolyn Martin herself. Martin and her husband, Jean Claude are co-owners of the property and have a delightful hands-on approach to their venture.
We started off with a glass of welcome bubbly on the lawn and then proceeded to enjoy a perfectly curated tasting menu in the restaurant.
As the name suggests, Creation wines are made with the utmost respect and awe for Mother Nature. They are a member of the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative (BWI) and committed to conserving their natural heritage by implementing long-term biodiversity as well as sustainability programmes.
The farm also complies with the sustainability guidelines laid down by the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) scheme and all recent releases boast the proud ‘green seal’. Furthermore, they have pledged their support to the Landmark Foundation and are officially predator friendly.
Working hand-in-hand with Nature, Creation Wines is one of only nine wineries in South Africa to have received the coveted EnviroWines accreditation.
It was almost impossible to tear ourselves away from our magical afternoon at Creation, but soon it was time to head back to Lanzerac, where the party of all parties was set to happen that evening.
Thank you once again to Adventure Shop for getting us around safely and to each and every one of our wine partners for making this such a memorable adventure.
